Puneet Aulakh, MD, FAASM | Sleep Medicine Item-Writing Task Force

Dr. Aulakh was born in India and received her medical degree from Odessa National Medical University in Ukraine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care and Sleep Medicine fellowships at the College of Georgia/Augusta University. Currently, she serves as faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Aulakh has previously served on the Pulmonary Disease Item-Writing Task Force before transitioning to the Sleep Medicine Item-Writing Task Force. She has been participating as an Item-Writer for two years. When asked what her favorite part of being an Item-Writer is, she stated, “I love the challenge of writing a good test question, as it makes me think through various case scenarios and encourages me to read pertinent publications. The interaction and stimulating discussions with fellow Item-Writers during the review calls has further enhanced my knowledge in the specialty. Overall, it has been an outstanding educational experience for me outside of my clinical practice.” Her advice to new Item-Writers is to “actively engage in discussions during the peer review calls. Pay attention to the feedback being provided by your peers during the review calls and use that information to improve your item-writing skills.”

In her free time, Dr. Aulakh enjoys traveling, hiking and gardening.
