Israa Soghier, MD | Critical Care Medicine Item-Writing Task Force

Dr. Soghier earned her medical degree from the University of Alexandria in Egypt before completing her internal medicine residency at Albert Einstein/Jacobi Medical Center and fellowship at New York University. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Soghier also serves as a Guideline Methodologist for the American College of Chest Physicians, where she develops evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Dr. Soghier has been on the Critical Care Medicine Item-Writing Task Force for two years. When asked what her favorite part about item-writing is, Dr. Soghier said, “What I enjoy most is the creative challenge: developing a thoughtful question, finding robust evidence to support it, and then diving into collaborative critique sessions with colleagues. These discussions transform initial drafts into polished, well-crafted assessment items.” When asked if she had any advice for new writers, she said to attend all the meetings with fellow Item-Writers. “These collaborative sessions are invaluable for generating ideas, troubleshooting challenging questions and making thoughtful decisions about what content to include or exclude. The community of writers provides both support and expertise that will strengthen your work.”

During her free time, Dr. Soghier loves reading, hiking and traveling with her husband and two sons.
