Dan Costin, MD | Medical Oncology Item-Writing Task Force
Dr. Costin is a medical oncologist based in White Plains, New York, currently serving as Medical Director of the White Plains Hospital Center for Cancer Care. He has been a sentinel member of the White Plains Hospital Cancer Program since its inception. He has served as a principal investigator or co-investigator for over 125 clinical research protocols at White Plains Hospital. His work currently includes leading studies on optimal management of advanced solid tumors with novel therapeutics. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his internal medical residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, his medical oncology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and his hematology fellowship at New York University. He has done several presentations at the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the European Society of Medical Oncology.
Dr. Costin joined the Medical Oncology Item-Writing Task Force in 2023. As an Item-Writer, he enjoys creating questions that are both challenging and educational.
“I try to find questions that highlight important new changes in how we care for our patients,” he says. His advice for newer writers is to attend board conferences and educational programs and to incorporate what they learn into new questions: “These meetings will often highlight up-to-date, evidence-based approaches to oncologic care that can stimulate the creation of thought-provoking questions.”
In his free time, Dr. Costin enjoys “golf, walking, photography, reading, music, spending time with my wife, children, family and friends, not necessarily all in that order.”
Dr. Costin was recently appointed to the Medical Oncology Traditional 10-Year Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Exam Approval Committee.
