ABIM is pleased to announce openings for both physicians and public members on the Specialty Boards and Advisory Committees for initial three-year terms beginning July 1, 2026. Applications are due Monday, July 20, 2026.
The Specialty Boards and Advisory Committees are responsible for setting and refining standards across certification and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) in their respective disciplines, ensuring that the credential remains meaningful and relevant to physician practice. They also have oversight of the Approval Committees, which review and approve content on ABIM’s assessments. Joining a Specialty Board or Advisory Committee provides a rewarding opportunity to work alongside outstanding colleagues in service to the profession and to patients. Specialty Board and Advisory Committee members help define the breadth of knowledge board certified internists and subspecialists need to meet certification and MOC requirements, provide perspectives on trends in their disciplines and collaborate with peers to develop fair and relevant assessments.

While the majority of ABIM Governance is composed of practicing physicians board certified by ABIM, the inclusion of expert interprofessional healthcare team members, caregivers, patients and patient advocates ensures a broader perspective on what board certification represents for the internal medicine community and for patients, hospitals and health systems that rely on the ABIM credential to tell them a physician is staying current.
