Navin Jaipaul, MD, MHS | Nephrology Item-Writing Task Force
Dr. Jaipaul graduated from Cornell University and the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Virginia and a fellowship in nephrology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his fellowship, he also completed a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Currently, he is the Chair of the Department of Medicine at VA Loma Linda Healthcare System. He also holds faculty appointments as Professor of Medicine at Loma Linda University School of Medicine and Health Sciences Clinical Professor at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine.
Dr. Jaipaul has been on the Nephrology Item-Writing Task Force for four years. When asked what his favorite part of being an Item-Writer is, he stated, “Being an Item-Writer gives me additional incentive to stay up-to-date on clinical practice guidelines and new developments in the field of nephrology.” His advice to new Item-Writers is to “take the opportunity to connect with other Item-Writers and ABIM staff who can provide valuable feedback to develop relevant items that are strongly evidence-based and fairly assess knowledge that clinically competent physicians should possess.”
In his free time, he enjoys trips to the Southern California beaches, mountains and deserts with his wife, son and daughter.
