The American Board of Medical Specialties recently announced an 80-day call for comments regarding the Draft Standards for Continuing Certification. These standards grow out of the recommendations of the Continuing Board Certification: Vision for the Future Commission report issued in February 2019.
Once finalized, these standards will shape the requirements of continuing certification programs for years to come – including a series of diplomate requirements regarding professionalism, professional development, assessment of knowledge, and improving the quality and safety of health care.
ABIM encourages all certified physicians to read the ABMS Draft Standards for Continuing Certification and submit their comments by the July 8 deadline. Feedback from the community will guide and inform the development of the final Draft Standards for Continuing Certification, which will be considered by the ABMS Board of Directors in October 2021.
