Shekar Raman, MD | Sleep Medicine Item-Writing Task Force

Dr. Raman was born in Trivandrum, India, and raised in Canada. He completed medical school at the University of Ottawa. He completed his neurology residency and fellowships in clinical neurophysiology and sleep medicine at the University of Iowa. While on faculty, he was an Assistant Professor and the neurology clerkship director for third- and fourth-year medical students. He relocated to Richmond, Virginia, where he currently practices sleep medicine at the Central Virginia VA Medical Center and is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Raman has been on the Sleep Medicine Item-Writing Task Force for four years. “My favorite part of being on the task force is exploring the creative and intellectual dimensions of learning pertaining to sleep medicine,” he says. His advice to new Item-Writers is to “be creative and think outside the box when designing multiple choice questions!”
